ACC 2022 REPORT
Key Highlights Include:
- The 2022 National Day Live Event featured speakers including: Dr Rick Hanson, psychologist, New York Times bestselling author, and founder of the Global Compassion Coalition; ACC Ambassador - Hugh Mackay; and Director, Initiatives of Change - Margaret Hepworth. Over 150 people registered for this event.
- Members of the Australian Compassion Council conducted over 32 interviews with a range of leading thinkers on the theme of Deep Listening In all over 7 hours of content was run throughout the day on the Global Charter’s Facebook page.
- Organised a number of events on Compassionate Leadership - in the conversation What Stops Virtue? - Gwen Pinnington and Mark Crosweller discussed the universality of our susceptibility to be harmed or to suffer, or in other words, to be vulnerable. They explored how vulnerability is something that establishes the basis of relatedness. Insights were drawn from recent empirical research undertaken which included over 80 disaster management leaders from Australia, New Zealand, and the United States – leaders who spend a lot of time in the space of harm, suffering and compassion.
- Dr Debbie Ling led the development of the award-winning Monash University "Compassion Training for Healthcare Workers" online course. The course was delivered five times in 2022 and 388 healthcare workers from around the world have completed it
- Two members of the ACC were appointed leads for two of the global Charters’ sectors: Dr Debbie Ling was appointed lead for Healthcare and Dr Lynne Reeder was appointed lead for its Science and Research sector.
- Terry Ayling continued to explore national and global links with Public Health and Palliative Care International with respect to its Compassionate Communities agenda. One expression of this is Terry’s facilitation of the memorial wall gatherings at the Gold Coast’s University Hospital and Robina Hospital.
